Earlier I was reading about the 'morganatic marriage' of Sartre and Beauvoir.
I'm loving his manuscript - each chapter is about a life-long partnership between two artists (and the redesign of love they create in response to the inadequecy of traditioinal marriage). The chapter on Frida and Diego was fabulous.
Collecting romantic memoirs of artists, philosophers, and writers is such a great way to think about / learn about their contributions (and he makes the point, of course, that the relationship with the other is essential to the work itself). It's like tabloids for nerds.
